All Witchspire Covens (6)

6 Covens
3 Melee (Spellblade)
3 Ranged (Wand)
Lifelong Choice is permanent
Quick Answer

Witchspire has 6 covens. In Early Access a coven only sets your starting weapon (Spellblade melee or Wand ranged) and your outfit color — so there's no "wrong" pick. Choose for the look and the playstyle you want: 3 covens start melee, 3 start ranged. Unsure? Take the quiz.

Coven ≠ class (in Early Access)

Your coven is chosen at Thornveil Academy during the "Dream Between Worlds" tutorial, after you meet Cirrus — and the choice is lifelong (you can only switch by rolling a new character). But right now a coven does not give you a unique class. Per-coven elemental passives have been announced by the devs but are not in the game yet — they're planned for 1.0. Your starter weapon is also fully replaceable within the first 2–3 hours.

Coven FAQ

Which coven should I pick in Witchspire?
Pick on playstyle and looks — none is mechanically stronger in Early Access. Want to get up close and dodge in? Take a melee Spellblade coven (Cloudpiercers, Starsmiths or Foretellers). Prefer to keep your distance and play it safe? Take a ranged Wand coven (Wildroots, Tomekeepers or Nightscribes). If you can't decide, run the coven quiz.
Does your coven actually matter / Cloudpiercers vs Foretellers?
Right now, only cosmetically and for your opening weapon. Cloudpiercers and Foretellers are both melee Spellblade covens, so they play identically out of the gate — the difference is the element theme and color palette (sunny Lux for Cloudpiercers, mystic Ethereal for Foretellers). The announced per-coven elemental passives that would make them play differently are not in the game yet (planned for 1.0).
Can you change coven later?
No. Your coven choice is lifelong on a given character — there is no in-game respec or switch. The only way to "change" is to create a new character.
Which coven is best for solo play?
A ranged Wand coven (Wildroots, Tomekeepers or Nightscribes) is the safest solo pick because attacking from a distance lets you avoid more damage. Wildroots in particular is pitched as the comfortable, forgiving starter. That said, your weapon is swappable within a couple of hours, so this is a soft preference, not a lock-in.
How many covens are there and how do they split?
There are 6 covens: 3 start as melee Spellblades (Cloudpiercers, Starsmiths, Foretellers) and 3 start as ranged Wand casters (Wildroots, Tomekeepers, Nightscribes).
When do you choose your coven?
During the "Dream Between Worlds" tutorial at Thornveil Academy, after you meet the guide Cirrus, as part of character creation.
